Learn how giving at Genentech supports our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Supporting communities has always been a core part of Genentech's business, allowing us to expand scientific education, accelerate innovation and directly support patients.
Our approach is grounded in an acknowledgment that structural racism is the root cause of historic and current health inequities facing Communities of Color. "That's why we anchor our giving to disrupting the structural roots of inequity and advancing a healthcare system that is more accountable to patients and communities," says Ryan De Souza Senior Manager, Giving & Social Impact, Genentech Public Affairs and Access.
To address long-standing inequities, we are intentional in partnering with organizations that reflect the wisdom and priorities of patients and communities.
The following are examples of how our approach comes to life:
Genentech recognizes that patients lack access to resources that are vital to continuity of care and the best health outcomes, particularly those patients that are marginalized and underserved. Our Patient Focused Giving Portfolio supports the expansion of essential patient services to all communities, and advances patient-led advocacy and policy initiatives to address entrenched systems of racism and bias for a more just and equitable healthcare system. In support of this, Genentech invested more than $17.5M in 2022, and more than $150M over the last 10 years.
The Health Equity and Diversity in STEM Innovation Fund aims to address racism in scientific research, healthcare delivery and education. Through the Innovation Fund, Genentech and the Genentech Foundation support teams that are pioneering historically under-resourced, community-driven solutions that have the power to promote lasting, widespread improvements in healthcare. In our latest round in 2022, we invested $17M in 31 organizations and changemakers, with 94% of grantee teams led or co-led by People of Color.
